The European Union (EU Delegation to India and the EUIPO) in cooperation with CIPAM, organized a Conference on Counterfeiting and the Role of Enforcement Agencies on 13-14 March 2018 in New Delhi, India. This event was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Suresh Prabhu, inaugurated this two-day conference in the presence of the DIPP Secretary, Shri Ramesh Abhishek, and the Ambassador of the European Union to India, Mr Tomasz Kozlowski.
The conference brought together national and international experts to have an open dialogue on enforcement topics and exchange best practice among enforcement authorities. The forum was addressed to enforcement agencies, attorneys and industry representatives who were offered the opportunity to gain awareness and discuss new ideas on how to further strengthen IPR protection. It also acted as a platform for participants to share their experience and improve inter-agency coordination to tackle the threat of counterfeiting.
Representatives from Interpol and EUIPO shared their expertise with the audience on the state of play concerning counterfeiting in the European Union. Sessions included counterfeiting trends in e-commerce, the impact of counterfeiting on national economies and possible strategies for enforcement agencies and governments to combat these crimes.
